Grading & Expectations
Sherri Savage
Behavior Expectations:
Students in the Academic Mastery Program (AMP) are required to follow all of the Grossomont High School rules and expectations as given in the Grossmont High School Student Handbook. Students with specialized Behavior Support Plans will be supported as written in their IEPs.
Grading Policy:
The percentage required to achieve letter grades are as follows:
A+ 97-100% A 93-96% A- 92-90%
B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 82-80%
C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 72-70%
D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 62-60% F A grade of 59% or below
Notification:
Students will be periodically notified regarding their classroom grades. Parents will be notified when students grades are dropping and when they are at risk of failure. Parent contact will be made in a timely manner so that remediation efforts can take place.
Homework:
Students are expected to make their best efforts in class. The Academic Mastery Program recognizes that many times homework can be a source of frustration and anxiety at home and rather than supporting our students it may create more difficulties. Our homework policy is that student’s will not be required to complete homework in AMP classes unless they are not completing class work. Occasional homework may be assigned on a case by case basis for projects or other reasons. In that case parents will be notified. Student’s may have homework from classes outside of AMP and will be expected to complete those assignments. Students who have a Study Skills class will have an opportunity to complete homework with staff assistance during those times.
Make-up Work and Late Work:
Assignments missed for excused absences will be accepted but the student must make arrangements with the teacher. Late work will be accepted with a 10% penalty unless otherwise noted in the student’s IEP.
Classroom Procedures:
· Students are expected to show up to class ready to learn. This includes having pens, pencils and paper for classes.
· Students are expected to show up in class on time. Specific transportation problems will be handled on a case by case basis. Students late and showing up within the first half hour of class will be considered tardy, after the first half hour students are considered absent. After 8 tardies, students will receive a referral, Saturday school, a mark of U in conduct and lose privileges such as being able to attend dances and participate in other activities. An IEP review may also be called to discuss the issues.
· Students having more than 10 absences will not receive credit for the class as per district policy. Students may attend Saturday school to make up absences.
Classroom Rules:
As a guideline, the expectations are:
· Respect yourself and others.
· Do your best.
· Follow directions as soon as they are given.
· Have all materials needed for work.
· Use work time wisely.
· Ask for help before assignments are due.
Teaching to the Standards:
Our goal in the Academic Mastery Program is to align our curriculum to the California State Standards. Individual student goals from each student’s IEP are also considered as modifications are made. Specific standards are aligned for each subject area.
